How To Become
A Reiki Practitioner

R
eiki empowerment comes through a series of initiations that increase power at each level or ‘degree’. In our particular tradition of Reiki there are four levels of empowerment. Other traditions may have more or less initiations, but all paths merge at the same level of the Reiki Teaching Mastership.

However simple the physical act of channelling Reiki may be, the process by which one is trained to become a practitioner is not, it is not merely the product of learning hand positions, symbols or charts. Learning Reiki is a matter of the direct oral transmission of its principles, energy and practice through a ritual of empowerment and initiation. The practitioner is opened and connected to the Universal Life Energy by a Master/Teacher, who in turn was initiated by their own Master in an unbroken line of transmission back to the founder, Dr Mikao Usui. The direct oral transmission of knowledge and enlightened understanding is part of the culture of Eastern social and religious traditions within which Reiki is set.
A
lthough Reiki does not describe itself as a ‘do’ or Way dedicated to spiritual and moral improvement, it is clear that it meets many of the necessary criteria. Reiki practitioners see the pursuit of healing and its practice as a spiritual endeavour, putting them in direct contact with a force for good. The disciplines of treatment and the quality of respect and compassion shown to clients form a life changing methodology. Values are altered or reinforced and the practitioner works to reach that condition of open mindfulness which is the essence of the Reiki practitioner for the rest of their lives.

O
nce a person is initiated to become a channel for Reiki, concentrated life force energy will flow through their hands and they will retain this ability for the rest of their life. They become spiritual warriors on a joyous journey of Enlightenment.
